Lift it all up to Him

The Story of Elijah

Elijah, whose name stands for “My God is Yahweh”, is considered and marked as the boldest of all the prophets. He stood up for God in the time when idolatry spread all over and had swept his land. He is remembered for his bold dealings with rulers and false prophets.

The thrilling story of Elijah which we can read on the several chapters on 1st and 2nd Kings talks about how we all should actually stand up for our faith and for God. Elijah had incredible faith in God, the kind of faith that was never washed away in spite of so many trials. He loyally carried out the Lord’s instructions and struck boldly in the face of enormous and powerful opposition. He was so confident of God’s power and this gave him the strength to face each obstacle and challenge. In the part when he challenged the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of the false god Asherah, he could confidently say and do what he did because he knew and he believed that the Lord is leading and guiding him.

But just like all of us, he is also known for the fact that he often dealt with problems and confusions. At one point in his life, he also failed to see that God is in control of everything. He struggled with the same passions and doubts that we have. However, in spite of this confusion, he still chose to trust God even at those moments that he did not always understand Him.

There are moments that we can’t grasp what God wants to tell us. We couldn’t understand where He was actually leading us and we don’t always know how God is working or what are His plans. But just like Elijah, we should always remember to trust in Him. God will always be there for us and He knows what is best for us. He is our ultimate back-up that’s why we shouldn’t be troubled and we have nothing to be afraid of as long as we are in His side. Even if the world seems to be against all of us, it doesn’t matter as long as we know we are on the right track— the track where God wants us to be.

When we pray to Him, I do believe that God never answers us with a “No”, but there are three possible answers that God gives us every time.

  1. “Yes.” – He answers us with a yes when He knows that what we want is good and rightful.
  2. “Not now.” – Sometimes we can’t see His answer because it isn’t the right time yet. God is a god of perfect timing; we just have to trust in Him and wait for that timing.
  3. “I’ve planned something better.”— Sometimes what we want doesn’t happen not because God doesn’t want us to be happy but because He has planned something better than what we want.

I said this to remind everyone to never lose hope. Again, He has a plan for each one of us. All we have to do is to humble ourselves to Him and just lift everything up to Him.

Lastly, besides from trusting in God and humbling in Him, I realized in this story that despite of all the miracles that God performed through Elijah, he was only a human being, just like every one of us. Thus, God can also use us in different amazing ways. We can also be the salt and light of the world, if and only if we surrender ourselves wholeheartedly to His will.
